What is a GST Appeal?
A GST appeal is a legal step in which a taxpayer asks a higher authority to review and change an order passed by a GST officer. If an officer has raised a demand of tax, interest or penalty, rejected a refund, cancelled your registration, or passed any other order that you think is wrong, the GST law gives you the right to appeal.
An appeal is a time-bound process. If you miss the time limit, you may lose the right to challenge the order, and the department can recover the amount from your bank account or property. For this reason, the first step after getting an order is to check the date and the appeal route.
CA Arpit Gupta drafts and files GST appeals, calculates the pre-deposit, represents taxpayers before the Appellate Authority and the Tribunal, and works with advocates for High Court cases.

The GST Appellate Tribunal started functioning on 24 September 2025, and its benches have begun working in several cities.
Earlier, the second stage of appeal was not available in practice, so this change gives taxpayers a proper forum in the middle of the ladder.
